How to update your Fly12 CE firmware

Modified on: 2019-08-08 14:44:03 +0800

This firmware update is only intended for Fly12 CE

Highlights:

Capture still images

Your Fly12 CE can now take a still image while recording video. You can do this by pressing the Q and power button together, indicated by a ‘snapshot’ sound. This image will be saved as a JPG and is able to be accessed with the rest of your footage (1080p/60fps not available).

Better image quality

We have made changes to the way your Fly12 CE adjusts to changing light conditions. This results in brighter footage in dark environments and clearer recording of reflective surfaces like number plates.

ANT+ improvements

Multiple ANT+ improvements to ensure your Fly6 CE and Garmin device work smoothly together. Please note, unfortunately at this stage you cannot use both Fly6 and Fly12 CE together with ANT+ (we’re working on it!).

Additional update notes (V1.0.46.000):

  • The Fly12 CE will record for 30 minutes when Incident Protection mode is activated.
  • Power on/off sounds will sound immediately rather than after a few seconds.
  • Lights will not activate when connecting to your PC or Bluetooth, or upon power on/off.
  • Fixed alarm issues where the alarm would not sound when the device is in silent mode, and with the alarm turning off after disconnecting and reconnecting to the app.
  • Fixed an issue where app connection during Home Safe mode would trigger the main light on the device.
  • Fixed an issue where device begins recording when connecting through Bluetooth to the app Incident Protection mode.
  • USB OTG (On-The-Go) will work with devices which have been updated to iOS12.

Please note – if you change your settings on your Fly12 CE while it is plugged directly into a computer using a USB cable, they will not be saved. We are working on resolving this, however you can still update your settings in the app or using an SD card reader.

How to update your firmware:

NOTE: this firmware update is different to previous updates so please read these instructions carefully.

Please check if you have the latest firmware by checking the code on your CycliqPlus desktop app for PC/Mac (scroll to the bottom of the app for versions). If the DSP firmware version reads V1.0.46.000 and the BLE reads 1.0.29.0, then you have the latest firmware. If not, please follow the steps below on how to update your DSP firmware to V1.0.46.000.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: There are two files included in this update, and each one will need to be installed separately – do not copy both files over at the same time.

Before you begin, please note:

  • Your Fly12 CE will not perform the update unless it is at least 50% charged.
  • For best results, be sure to format your SD card via the app prior to copying the firmware files.
  • Delete all previously downloaded firmware files and empty your bin.
  • We recommend using Chrome or Safari as your internet browser.
  • These firmware updates are not compatible with any other Cycliq devices (Fly6 CE, Fly6, Fly6[v] or Fly12).

  • DO NOT complete a Master Reset OR remove the microSD card when the unit is in the process of completing a firmware update – this may damage your Fly CE device.

Step 1 – Download and transfer the first firmware file

  • Download the first FLY12_MCU_V1.0.29.000_20190123.bin file (we recommend using Chrome or Safari).
  • Once downloaded the firmware file, plug in your Fly12 CE bike camera to your computer using the supplied USB-C cable and turn the Fly12 CE on – this will let your computer access the device. You can also use an SD card reader to insert the SD card directly to your computer.
  • Open the SD card/USB drive (SD card main folder) and copy the FLY12_MCU_V1.0.29.000_20190123.bin file over to the main folder. Use open Finder for Mac or File Explorer for Windows.
  • If you are a Windows user, properly eject and unplug the charger cable from your Fly12 CE – this will power down the Fly12 CE. For Mac users, be sure to properly ‘eject’ the Fly12 by pressing the eject button in your Finder window next to the name of the microSD card.
  • Turn your Fly12 CE back on, and you’ll notice the flashing LED on the side of the device. Note: if the red flashing light doesn't appear, use an SD card reader instead of a USB-C cable to copy the file.

Fly12CE Firmware Installation 2

Wait roughly 30 seconds until the light turns off. This means the firmware update is complete. Please ensure you format your SD card once the firmware update is complete.

Step 2 – Download and transfer the second firmware file

  • Download the second FLY12_DSP_V1.0.46.000_20190121.bin file.
  • Once again plug your Fly12 CE into your computer and turn the Fly12 CE on – this will let your computer access the device.
  • Open the SD card/USB drive (SD card main folder) and copy the FLY12_DSP_V1.0.46.000_20190121.bin file over to the main folder.
  • If you are a Windows user, properly eject and unplug the charger cable from your Fly12 CE – this will power down the Fly12 CE. For Mac users, be sure to properly ‘eject’ the Fly12 by pressing the eject button in your Finder window next to the name of the microSD card.
  • Turn your Fly12 CE back on and you will again see the flashing LED on the side of the device.

Step 3 – Format your SD card

Please ensure you format your SD card once the firmware update is complete. You must do this using your SD card reader or the Cycliq app, it will not work if you do this through your USB cable.

Please note, after updating your firmware your old videos will no longer be able to be edited on the CycliqPlus app. To keep your videos, copy the files to a folder on your computer before formatting your SD card. When your reformat is complete, transfer the files back to your SD card and they will now again be compatible with the app.

You can connect to your Fly12 CE via the CycliqPlus mobile app to double-check whether the firmware has been updated.
